If enacted, SOPA/PIPA could have disastrous consequences for the basic infrastructure of the Internet. It would afford the Federal government and copyright holders excessive and far-reaching powers to take down sites they deem to be hosting protected content with little regard for the definition of "hosting." -
MashableOn January 18, 2012, the Appitalism community has chosen to blackout the Appitalism.com website for 24 hours, in protest against proposed legislation in the United States — the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the U.S. House of Representatives, and PROTECTIP (PIPA) in the U.S. Senate. If passed, this legislation will harm the free and open Internet and bring about new tools for censorship of international websites inside the United States.
Appitalism will be supporting the SOPA Movement from 12AM EST, January 18th 2012 and will be up and running again on 12AM EST, January 19th, 2012.
